More of Budapest

I started my day off slowly with a leisurely time of meditation at the Danube. It was followed by a nice breakfast and we were off to the city. We arrived at our first destination by bus, train, tram and bus, all with a little directional assistance. Most of the time Frommer has it right but sometimes he doesn't. We were in search of a famous flea market. When we finally arrived (1 1/2 hours later) it was nothing to travel that far for. It was your typical junk with not much more. I did try three times to barter for an embroidered table runner as a keepsake. One guy wanted the equivalent of $40, the next $30 and finally a wise woman sold me hers for $12. With that done we got out of there within a 1/2 hour. I must say they had nice restrooms despite the dingeness of the whole place. All in all it was a waste of a morning but what can you do.

From there we headed to one of the malls in search of a pair of shoes for Kenny. The place was huge with three stories that went on and on. Kenny finally found some shoes and he is now a much happier camper. They were selling crocs there for $70. We ran into five American college students doing a summer of study. Much like Rick, they've been all over Europe during the past few weeks. Bill talked a little hockey with them and we were on our way to our next stop.

Our next stop was the Budapest Holocaust Memorial Center. As you can expect it was a serious tour and we learned a lot about Hungary's involvement in the holocaust. It was huge. In fact more Jews currently live in Hungary than any other European country apart from Russia. It will be hard to get some of those pictures out of our minds.

We enjoyed an early supper on a cafe filled street. It was good. We've been getting a fairly decent sized meal for two for around $35.

From there we headed to the airport to pick up one of our rental cars. We needed it to be able to pick up Rick and Eric when they came in. When we went to get into the car to drive away Bill realized Ken left his old shoes on the floor in the airport where he had been waiting for me. They quickly ran inside and fortunately were able to retrieve them.

We loved the lights of the city driving through at night. Budapest is truly a wonderful city that I've thoroughly enjoyed. There are still many things we were unable to do but we got a good flavor of the city anyway. We leave tomorrow for Croatia. We definately won't have internet every day there so you may not hear from me for awhile. Ricky and Eric came in late at 1am. It's been a late night arriving back at the hotel at 2am

So is Budapest truly better than Prague, like Ricky has proposed?

I think I like the look of Rick's haircut! Glad you have reunited with he and Eric. Let the fun begin! It's halftime during the Celtics game--pretty close game so far.
Tonight was our first graduation here at our school since Rad's nine years ago!
What's the price of gas?

Just thought I would let Bill know that at 8PM on Saturday evening it is 95 degrees in Boston. Don't know what the high was today. Two more days of the 3H's, with Monday being the hottest day of the three. Of course Cape Cod was beautiful topping off in the high 70's!
